On the occasion of the International Day of War Veterans (also known as Remembrance Day) and the 107th anniversary of the end of the First World War, 10th year of the Run in Honor of War Veterans was held by the Military Cemetery in Petržalka, Bratislava. The 5.2-kilometer run, which started symbolically at 11.11 a.m., was also attended by members of the Military Intelligence.
It was on November 11, 1918, at 11.11 a.m. when the signing of the Armistice in the Compiègne Forest ended the First World War. It was the largest military conflict in the history of mankind with estimated 18 million victims. In honor of those who fell in the First World War, the tradition of wearing red poppy flowers was also established. These later became the symbol of all war veterans.
Members of Military Intelligence also honored the memory of fallen soldiers who fought and gave their lives for the achievement of our peace and freedom by attending the symbolical run with the red poppy on their chests.
