New General ranks in MI

Activity of Military Intelligence was awarded by new General ranks. Director Lieutenant General Ján Balciar was promoted by the President of Slovak Republic to the rank of Four-star General. President of Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska on 26th April 2018 appointed Colonel Juraj Štefanka to the first General rank – Brigadier General.

President of Slovak Republic accepted the proposal of Slovak government for promotion and appointment of both Generals. Service is mainly represented by the director and his promotion to the highest General rank is appreciation of high-quality work of all members and employees of Military Intelligence. In recent years, MI successfully developing and expanding its capabilities in existing areas and also in new ones. Taken into account was also very good credit of MI at the international level.

Appointment to the General rank is the highest professional honor not only for those soldiers, but it is also important milestone in modern history of Military Intelligence. It follows the General tradition of military intelligence services. Promotion to the rank of Four-star General is not entirely unique in Europe. However, the state leadership approaches it only in special cases. So far, it has been awarded like this less than ten leaders of intelligence services.
